RESUMO: Este artigo tem como objetivo trabalhar os conceitos de memória, estranhamento e o lugar do leitor no texto. Propomos discutir a terceira margem no conto de Guimarães Rosa, e a configuração do estranhamento pautada pela ruptura entre o plano físico do rio, e o plano simbólico de uma margem alternativa, a terceira, criada pela memória do filho. As margens fracionam o tempo na mesma medida em que permitem a ruptura entre passado e presente. A narrativa sistematiza a memória e revela um paradoxo de formas convencionais, de valores, levando o leitor a reorganizar suas expectativas tanto em relação ao saber quanto aos sentidos até então fixados. Para Jauss (apud Zilberman, 2009), o leitor ao se tornar emancipado tem seus conceitos de significados do valor estético ampliado, o que possibilitará o princípio da “pergunta e resposta” possibilitando a interpretação de novos horizontes. Partindo dessa concepção, a estilização da memória individual amplia-se como cultural e coletiva, no conto ora apresentado, por meio da personagem narrador, o filho, que retoma desde sua infância até sua velhice, a ausência do pai no seio familiar. É pela linha da hereditariedade, pai e filho, que o evento narrado elege a experiência como singular e individualizadora na cultura, matizadas no conto como isolamento em uma canoa, ao ermo. Este estudo localiza a base teórica sobre a memória e a recepção do leitor. Destacamos aqui Bergson em Matéria e Memória (2009) e Bachelard em Dialética da Duração (1988).

ABSTRACT: AThis article aims to work the concepts of memory, estrangement and place the reader in the text. We propose to discuss the third bank in the story of  Guimarães Rosa, and configuration of estrangement guided by the physical separation of the river, and the symbolic level of a margin Alternatively, the third, created in memory of his son.
